Looking for a recommendation on LCD or Plasma. My viewing habits are Sports, movies, regular TV. My room is semi-bright room during the day and some lights on in the evening. Size around 42-50 inch. My main concern is light impact on viewing, since most lag in LCD is overcome by 120Hz (not totally, but not enough to bother me). Reason I'm looking now, is my 15 YO CRT 36" is starting to show signs of age in picture quality.
That's kind of the eternal question, and you'll find arguments on both sides. When my old CRT died, I ended up buying an LCD and haven't regretted it. But you'l find folks who argue that plasma colors are richer and blacks are blacker. You might also visit AVSForum, where there are tons of experts hanging out.
You might also consider a "shallow" DLP system. You get the most screen for the money, no lag, great color depth (with a 6-color system) and no "i" vs. "p" (it's always "p").
On the down side, they aren't a flat panel you can hang on a wall (but they aren't as deep as old-school projection systems). Also, replacing the bulb will cost you $300 every couple of years, but the reliability and longevity of the system as a whole makes up for that, in my opinion.
My Father in law has a DLP and is about 18 months into and already replaced one bulb. And having watched a few ballgames and shows, it has a nice picture, but for me, the bulb replacement at 18 months is now a turn off. Hopefully the newer models have a longer life. I think his issue was a warm-up with no cool down when the power went off.
Thanks for the advice. Leaning towards flat, but have not ruled out DLP.
